Leadership for Creative Industry Micro Businesses (1 day workshop)
September 4th, 2014: Atrium, University of South Wales, Cardiff
This one day leadership workshop is aimed at owner/managers of micro enterprises working primarily in the creative industries. We have 30 spaces, which are free and can be booked here.
Workshop led by: Erica Wolfe Murray
If you work in the creative, media, tech sector, often you're helping brands and your clients grow, but who helps you develop your biz model, understand your intellectual assets, how to innovate, grow your company - inventively, in ways not even you have thought of?
With over 30 current SME clients all in these fast-growth sectors, and having worked as a creative head and financial director, I help companies from start-ups through to established brands like the Hackney Empire, Harvey Nicks and the Intellectual Property Office discover how to gain more traction in different places and spaces.

What the day will cover:
So What's Your Problem?
Owning and running a small business is hard work and unremitting. Everyone has one key problem they want to resolve.
This session identifies the key problems/problem areas in the room as many will be shared so we will attempt to address them during the day, to ensure you leave with a solution action plan.
Let's Target Your Ambitions
Using a highly successful visual bull's eye diagram, we will start to unpick all the different strands of ambition you have that you want to come to fruition over the next three years. Everyone will go away with their own version of this.
Drawing up the Plan
What's the point of having a wp-ed, linear business plan sitting on your laptop, when in reality things change shape every day, every week? By drawing it out linking to your ambitions, you will understand the shape, the function, the flexibility and opportunities open to you in a totally different way. You will spot linkages, different scopes, reach and needs in places you've never spotted before.
The afternoon session is about trying to resolve some of the problems that the morning has not addressed, so three of the key areas that crop up time and again are:
a. driving more turnover from what you do
b. managing your spend/budget/income to help you plan better
c. an effective sales & marketing strategy
Making the Most of your Markets
By looking at where you sell and who you sell to more closely will help you identify how better to spend those precious marketing pounds - or do you need to spend any at all? Let's think this through with a couple of drawings to see what you can do better, proactively or just differently.
A Simple Guide to IP
For most people the term Intellectual Property brings on glazed eyes with the odd yawn... But IP is one of the most exciting and powerful assets that your company can own. It gives you value, can bring you clients, let's you restructure contracts to ensure you keep more. It can be fun, sexy, money generating... Get your head round it and your business will be worth more, earn more. Come and get to grips with IP once and for all and ensure you are not losing out, or giving your IP away.
