People’s JourneysAcademic Lead: Spencer Jordan - Cardiff Metropolitan University
Business Parter: Gareth Loudon - Centre for Creativity Ltd Project Description People’s Journeys / Teithiau Pobl seeks to explore the intersection between storytelling and cityspace. It will consist of individual narratives, linking a specific place to a story. These journeys will be personal journeys, community generated and not necessarily on any current map (for example, they may be historical, referring to what is no longer present). The stories of these journeys will be collected and then delivered through a multimedia application (an app). Users will re-trace these ‘journeys’ using a mobile phone to engage with audio, image and video, in effect creating their own ‘journey’ or physical ‘storyspace’. The app will allow each user to see their community in new and innovative ways. Project outcomes You can find more on the project website and by reading the excellent feature published by The South Wales Echo. There has been mutually beneficial knowledge exchange between Project researchers and members of Grangetown local community, specifically the organisers of Grangetown Local History Society (GLHS). Dr Spencer visited the GLHS committee to explain and demonstrate the app. Steve Duffy, GLHS’s web master, played a key role in the development of the Project’s app. The android version of the app is now available for free download on Google Play. |
