Scoping the development of a personal chronic disease management solution Academic Lead: Dr Yunqiu Li, Swansea University Business Patner: Mr Chris Ingram, The Glendale Family, MiH (Music in Hospital)
It seems obvious that playing classical music, such as Mozart, quietly would improve patients’ satisfaction. But it’s also obvious that one could do much better by targeting patients with specific needs. For instance, using music to provide conducive artistic ambience based on patients’ health and wellbeing status, e.g. using vital signs as indicators, and unobtrusively increase appropriate patient confidence. The project will scope the development of a personal chronic disease management solution that combines music, healthcare and human-computer interaction, with the aims of:
1. Improving the current vital sign monitoring applications widely adopted by chronic disease sufferers and wellbeing enthusiasts by embedding Vital Sign to Music mapping algorithm; 2. Interpreting the ‘cold and technical’ clinical data, into ‘soft and personal’ music pieces, so people can better connect to/with; 3. Reducing the resolution of private clinical data so to encourage sharing and establishing community; 4. Enabling patients to provide less ‘stressful and depressing’ to family and friends, so as to encourage dual way support; 5. Testing out an additional approach of clinical number presentation in the health management field, and its impact to the user on an emotional level
