Funding awarded to two new projects
We are delighted that 2 new projects have been funded by CEWN, from our 'Living longer, Living Well' theme.
Based on collaborative knowledge exchange between academics, businesses and government/cultural organisations in
the creative industries at the KE events and Creative Crucible, CEWN has provided opportunity for supporting the development of imaginative projects.
‘Breaking Bread’
Leah McLaughlin, Cardiff Metropolitan University & Alison John, Yello Brick
The project will undertake a feasibility study to pilot a not-for-profit service to enable the ageing population to contribute to
their community through the shared experience of making bread. This activity has proven to have therapeutic benefits for the ageing population and could be a trigger for social engagement, communication and knowledge exchange.
‘Pointr’
Gavin Cawood, Cardiff Metropolitan University & Nic Rodgers, Head Tag Ltd
The project aim is to develop a website (Pointr) to simplify how young people find services that lead to employment and training on the internet.
Research conducted by PDR for Careers Wales shows that when searching for opportunities in Cardiff less than 25% used local services specifically designed to assist them in finding opportunities, with the majority ending up on national Jobs boards. This greatly reduces the chances of them finding the ‘Next Step’ and remains expensive for councils to run.
Our next funding opportunity is linked to the July 9th Open Innovation event. More info here

Two great events held in North Wales in April
In early April CEWN hosted two events which were attended by industry practitioners, academics, leading organisations in Wales and local councils - the first was a second consultation on our Creative Hub proposal and the second was a Knowledge Exchange ideation event on the theme of Creative Tourism.
See the photos here from the consultation - you can still feed into our plans here

First consultation on Creative Wales Hub held
Creative Exchange Wales Network held an event in Cardiff on March 7th that brought together businesses and universities in Wales to explore the idea of developing a Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Creative Industries in Wales.
35 people attended, from a range of industry sectors including freelancers, company directors and support organisations as well as university staff, to consider what such a hub could look like and what the benefits would be for both the Welsh creative economy and academic research in Wales. A wealth of interesting ideas and suggestions emerged from the session and we will be taking on board this valuable input as we develop our thinking and planning. you can see images from our event here.
"We are consulting as widely as possible with stakeholders in Wales in order to develop a proposal that we can put forward to potential funders and this was one of two consultation events planned for this Spring – the next is in Caernarfon on April 1st," said Karen Lewis of CEWN.
"The vision is big and we need your help. For further information regarding the Caernarfon event, please click here

Industry expert Simon Hopkins blogs about the first HE Connected Studio held on 27th of November 2013
"It’s been fascinating to see a very different incarnation of the Connected Studio programme at work, taking CS principles outside of the CS template. For me at least, it really worked."
