Beaumaris Gaol StoriesAcademic lead: Ffion Haf Jones, Geraint Ellis, University of Bangor
Technology Partners: Phil Stead, Cwmni Da Business Partner: Ceri Williams, Beaumaris Gaol Project description The project aims to produce a detailed scoping document to clarify the way to access further funding in order to produce a mobile application which utilises iBeacon technology to enhance the visitor experience at Beaumaris Gaol on Anglesey. This is a genuinely innovative application which uses cutting edge technology to offer accurate indoor navigation and targeted location-aware content delivery. The implications and potential of the new technology for the tourism sector are huge, and will offer a significant step in creating new immersive opportunities for visitors to heritage sites and other locations. The technology allows applications to recognise when a mobile device is near a small wireless sensor called an iBeacon. The iBeacon triggers an action on the mobile device using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The iBeacons application will deliver a series of video pieces to visitors to the the gaol and courtrooms. Local community drama groups and/or students will act out mini-plays which will be filmed and played on user devices. The plays will be directed by the well known director, Ffion Haf Jones at Bangor University. The plays will be based on real-life stories of prisoners, warders and judges that worked in the gaol. These stories already exist and will be collaboratively researched by Ceri Williams and Ffion Haf Jones. Project outcome You can find more about the project by reading the Scoping document.
